Henry Daniels

Henry Daniels was convicted in the Circuit Court of Jackson County for the murder of his live-in girlfriend and was sentenced to twenty-five years imprisonment. Mr. Daniels jury convicted him despite the fact that there was very little evidence to connect him to the crime. He was convicted primarily on the basis of "junk science," involving luminal testing for blood conducted at the home Mr. Daniels shared with the victim.

Mr. Daniels secured the services of clinic attorney Kent Gipson to represent him on his direct appeal. In the fall of 2005, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, issued an opinion that reversed Mr. Daniels’ conviction and ordered a new trial based upon the fact that the trial court introduced scientifically unreliable luminal evidence to secure his conviction.

On re-trial, Jackson County Circuit Court Judge John Torrence excluded this evidence as unreliable and Mr. Daniels was swiftly acquitted by a new jury. Mr. Daniels was released from custody in 2006 and returned to his home in Kansas City to resume his life.
